The circle of fire.
The moment the cigar is ready — and how to know the difference.
This is where patience separates a good smoke from a great one. Once the cedar is doing its work on the sides of the cigar, you're building toward something Dolan called a perfect circle of fire — an even, continuous burn all the way around the foot of the cigar.
Most people declare victory too early. They see some fire and they start drawing. What they get is a lopsided burn, a hot spot on one side, and a smoke that fights them the whole way. The circle tells you the cigar is ready. Not before.
And once you have it — you seal it. That's when everything Dolan had been building toward becomes clear.

The technique
You started at the sides in Step 02. Now you're working inward — slowly, with control. Keep the cedar moving. You're not trying to torch the foot, you're coaxing an even burn across the entire surface.
Look at the foot of the cigar. A glowing, even ring all the way around — that's what you're waiting for. One unburned patch means the cigar isn't ready. Resist the draw until the circle is complete.
Once the circle is there, seal the cigar in your mouth and draw slowly. The cedar smoke and the tobacco smoke integrate in that first sealed draw — and something opens up that wasn't there before. Dolan said there are sixteen exercises to heighten the palate from this point forward. We retained four. They were enough.
